GUY FAWKES MASK
Anonymous
Popular icon of protest
This Guy Fawkes mask was designed by illustrator David Lloyd for Alan Moore’s 1982 comic V for Vendetta and used in its film adaptation in 2006. It became a global symbol of resistance through its use by the hacktivist collective Anonymous and its appearance in the Occupy protests, and is now used by protesters around the world. Anonymity is a volatile thing, used both in the defence of privacy against tyranny, and for the conduct of crime and violence.
