REPEAL JUMPER

Ambiguous Campaign

In addition to the original article inserted into the constitution in 1983, we have included as a design object related to the Eighth Amendment — a REPEAL jumper — a symbol of the current Repeal the Eighth movement in Ireland.

The jumper bears the single word REPEAL a potentially ambiguous message that ‘hides in plain sight’. It relies on the context of broader campaigns in Ireland for its interpretation. By expressing the single word as pointer to the campaign, it might invite dialogue as to its meaning. It continues long-standing practices of using clothes such as sweaters or T-shirts as platforms for public, personal, political statement.
