Net Neutrality with former Obama advisor Susan Crawford

Tuesday, July 24, 2012 - 18:00 to 19:00
Paccar Theatre

Leading advocate of net neutrality and former Obama technology advisor Susan Crawford will speak at Science Gallery this Tuesday as part of our SFI Speaker Series. Susan will talk about how the US has invested in technology and compare it with Ireland's approach, with a particular focus on matters of internet access and censorship.

Crawford was Special Assistant to the President for Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy in 2009 and is currently a member of Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Advisory Council on Technology and Innovation.

Crawford is perhaps best known as a proponent of net neutrality - the idea that internet service providers and governments should not place restrictions on our access to the internet. As well as being a respected academic, teaching internet and communications law, she contributes to major publications such as Bloomberg View and Wired. Crawford is the founder of OneWebDay, a global Earth Day for the internet that takes place each September 22nd.

The event will be presented by technology journalist and Science Gallery Leonardo, Karlin Lillington
