First Up: Creative entrepreneurs on breaking through

A series of lunchtime talks from the creative minds at the forefront of Irish culture, science and the arts.

The unique individuals featured in the First Up series believed in an idea and did everything possible to make that idea work. They invested in their own talent and creativity in order to create a career or lifestyle suited to their vision and personal aspirations.

The speakers will tell their own stories from the beginning, how they developed their ideas and will share their plans for the future.

Emily Archer is a visual artist, environmental activist and facilitator passionate about the natural world and our connection to it. She works with reclaimed wood, metal, plastic, glass and living plants to create imaginative and thought provoking sculptural installations. She has produced several large interactive projects with an environmental theme. These include; Window Farm 1.1, A vertical hydroponic garden in Francis St CBS 2015, an inner city primary school, Solar Dancer -a solar powered kinetic sculpture commissioned by ESB 2014 and Dream Farm -an interactive glass house imagining a future of urban farming, Granby Park 2013. Her first environmental art project was Shoal -a participatory project to raise awareness of over-fishing, commissioned by The Ark & Dublin City of Science 2012. After years of focusing on environmental issues such as climate change in her work, Emily is now exploring natural cycles through an illustration project called Seed of Life. What are some key cycles in nature and how can they help us draw meaning and relatedness in these complex lives we lead? Emily is a graduate of the National College of Art & Design in Dublin, as well as the School for Social Entrepreneurs Ireland and is the founder of Cre8 Sustainability - a creative agency for environmental education. She lives in Dublin.
