When is consent not consent? And how can we know? In the age of digital intimacy and the rise of hook-up culture, how should sexual consent be articulated? Is it enough to rely on looks and gestures or should it be verbally articulated on a first date? And how does porn affect our view of consent?
We have gathered a panel of experts and advocates to discuss the role of language and education around consent to explore these questions. We will be joined by Noeline Blackwell from the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre, and from the National University of Ireland Padraig MacNeela and Siobhán O'Higgins, who have been studying and leading consent education in universities around Ireland. The panel will be moderated by Caroline West, researcher in sexuality studies at Dublin City University.
