FameLab Ireland Final

FameLab, the world’s leading science communication competition, is back! Held in more than 30 countries, the British Council and Cheltenham Festivals have teamed up again to bring FameLab to Ireland in 2019.

Armed only with their wits and a few props, the top newest voices in science, technology, engineering and maths from across Ireland will give 3 minute talks on always fascinating, sometimes bizarre science concepts.

Expect to hear anything from the use of light to check the lungs of premature babies to mathematics in nature, detecting clots with 3D printing and bovine blood and, is the drastic rise in short-sightedness down to our smartphones!

Using FameLab’s 3 C’s – content, clarity and charisma, talks are judged by an esteemed panel of professionals from academia, marketing and business. The winner of FameLab Ireland will then go on to represent the nation at the FameLab International Finals, Cheltenham Science Festival, UK in June 2019.

And if that wasn’t enough to whet the science taste buds, you’ll be entertained during the interval by poet and writer, Dan Simpson. Dan has performed around the world including at Glastonbury Festival and on BBC Radio. A former Canterbury Laureate, Dan often works in scientific contexts, entitling his first collection of poetry ‘Applied Mathematics’. He has appeared at many popular science events and talks and has produced science-inspired spoken word shows, bringing poets and scientists together to create original performances.

So come along to witness leading scientific research, amaze friends with surprising facts and interact with individuals in Ireland responsible for tackling some of the biggest scientific issues in the world today.
