WE ARE ALL SCIENTISTS: BRINGING SCIENCE DIRECTLY TO YOU!
In November 2019, Science Gallery Dublin in partnership with Pfizer crafted their very first ScienceWeek pop-up exhibition WeAreAllScientists in the CHQ building, to challenge the public to think differently about science, and themselves. Characteristics in any scientist include discernment, clarity, resilience, creativity, curiosity and play; yet we all call upon these attributes on a daily basis.
Using a toolkit of short interactive workshops the show’s mediators led engaging conversations and exciting demonstrations exploring what it really takes to be a scientist. These included a DNA extraction experiment, a microscopy demo to visualise cheek cells at different levels of clarity, a chance to test your propensity to risk with a balloon pop experiment, an intriguing Lego duck challenge and finally a curious display of some of the microbes which call the ecosystems of our bodies’ home.
It was exciting to see young people getting hands-on with science; exploring the finer details of an experiment alongside the big picture to make informed judgements, learn from their mistakes and then decide on what the next move they wanted to make was.
I for one cannot wait to see what is in store for the budding young scientists of the future!
“Thanks to being part of mediating these workshops I can see that when working towards a common goal, a diverse set of approaches makes for a much more creative and robust solution.”
