COCHLEAR TABLE

CENTER FOR DEAF STUDIES

The Centre for Deaf Studies (CDS), School of Linguistic, Speech and Communication Sciences (SLSCS) was established in 2001 and is the only place on the island of Ireland where university level training in Deaf Studies is offered. Focusing on the experience of being deaf (Deafhood) rather than on hearing impairment as a medical condition (deafness), CDS is committed to research that documents and explores the signed languages of Ireland (grammar, status, teaching and learning of signed languages as first and second languages, interpreting to and from signed languages), and the experiences of Deaf People (historical, contemporaneous, and in this exhibition, future!).

See www.tcd.ie/slscs/cds and www.deafstudies.eu for more information.
