HOW CAN WE TRANSFORM WASTE INTO PURPOSE?

Waves of plastic are washing up on our shores. How can we repurpose this plastic waste as a useful material, and manipulate its long lifespan to work in our favour? Seafloor honours the longevity of plastic and transforms “waste” into a material that will be useful for years to come.

These tiles are made from plastic found on Killiney Beach in Dublin. Each tile helps in the battle against single-use plastics and the pollution of our beaches.Fabricated from polyethylene and sand, they turn the problem of single-use plastic into a longer lasting solution - flooring, a wall, or decoration.

Seafloor was created by four Dublin based designers from the National College of Art and Design. Keith, Róisin, Alex and Joe all share a passion for solving problems as creatively as possible and are passionate about designing for a better future. Seafloor was a response to the brief, “f$%k plastic”, which invited designers to find a use for the tons of plastic that are washed up on our coastlines. These designers used the opportunity to turn waste into a valuable raw material. Can innovative solutions like this help in the battle against the pollution of our beaches?
